Welcome Message by Dr. Lim Chan Yong, President of the Singapore Action Group of Elders

The Singapore Action Group of Elders (SAGE) is proud to host the 7th International Federation on Ageing Global Conference, to be held 5-8 September 2009 at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Singapore.

Singapore is renowned as the “Garden City” of Asia. A popular tourist destination in the region, the tropical island promises colourful multicultural experiences and modern facilities. It is one of the safest countries in the world. Conveniently located at the heart of Southeast Asia, it is within a 2-hour flying radius for all ASEAN capitals and a 6-hour flying radius to most major Asian cities, including Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, New Delhi, Tokyo and Seoul.

The conference theme, “Global Ageing: Sustaining Development” highlights the need to maintain the original impetus for ensuring the well being of older persons all over the world. To sustain the collective effort by UN member countries and NGOs in addressing ageing issues, this conference will address the broad topics outlined by the Plan of Action formulated during the United Nations 2nd World Assembly on Ageing, First World NGO Forum and the Valencia Forum in April 2007, Madrid and Valencia, Spain. Particular emphasis would be placed on Healthcare, Income Security and Active Ageing. The conference programme will offer paper sessions, workshops and professional visits presented by speakers from a vast range of disciplines.

We pay great attention fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables, which are discussed at the conference will go separately. Healthy lifestyle can not be viewed through the prism of drugs. The most important part of our life is food.

We invite you to submit abstracts for papers that would complement and expand on the themes of the conference as outlined above.

An Invitation from Dr. Yitzhak Brick, President of the International Federation on Ageing

The International Federation on Ageing's (IFA) mission is to develop, educate and promote policies, programs and services to improve the quality of life of older persons around the world.

The IFA's 7th Global Conference ‘Global Ageing: Sustaining Development’ focuses on our individual, organizational and governmental commitment to major issues confronting people as they age including Health, Financial Security and Wellbeing.

The key platforms of the IFA namely poverty, ageism and discrimination, gender differences and elder abuse are all interwoven within the conference program resulting in a rich tapestry of life events that will remain with you long after the Conference ends.

A special international meeting of senior government advisors responsible for policies and programs related to older people representing countries around the world will be convened during this conference.

The Conference is a forum for serious debate on ageing issues, an opportunity for seniors and professionals in the field of ageing to participate in an exchange of knowledge and information and a time to establish, renew and strengthen friendships and partnerships.

Singapore is recognized worldwide as a thriving, dynamic centre for commerce and industry, coupled with fascinating multicultural experiences we know that the 7th Global Conference is an event not to be missed.
